Atlantic Reinforcing Concrete is proud to be a subcontractor on the replacement of the Unionport Bridge. The bridge built in 1953 is being completely rebuilt due to heavy wear and tear from the continuous traffic, averaging 50,000 to 60,000 cars per day. The main span of the Unionport Bridge is a “bascule” drawbridge that opens for navigation along commercial waterway to accommodate critical deliveries and recreational boaters.
Our portion of work includes fabricating and installing the concrete reinforcing materials for the 18 columns that support the bridge. The columns made from epoxy coated #14 vertical rebar that are 72 feet in length. These are held together with #7 epoxy coated five-foot continuous spirals that are tied at four inches on center.
Atlantic Reinforcing is fabricating the columns in our home yard, where we have the room to adjust as needed and truck in with our fleet. Our anticipated completion on the project is December 2020.
